The Even Realities G2 is the rare smart-glasses product that improves by doing less. There is no camera staring at the people opposite you. No tinny speaker trying to turn your ears into a public Bluetooth zone. No grand promise to replace your phone, laptop, face or personality. It is a discreet, prescription-capable pair of everyday glasses with a small green heads-up display — and that restraint is rather the point.
The G2's appeal is deliberately understated: everyday-looking frames first, private information display second.
The Anti-Smart-Glasses Pitch: What the G2 Actually Is

Smart glasses have spent years struggling with a very basic human problem: people do not especially enjoy wondering whether they are being filmed. It turns out the mysterious black dot on someone's face is not always a brilliant conversation starter. Even Realities took that anxiety, removed the camera entirely, and built the G2 around a much less theatrical idea.
These are display-first glasses. Their job is to place short, useful information in your view without demanding that you become a walking camera crew or listen to somebody else's podcasts through open-ear speakers. The G2 has binocular MicroLED displays, one in each lens, and uses waveguide optics to put green monochrome text and simple graphics in front of you. That sounds like a long feature list, but the underlying premise stays pleasingly narrow: you glance, absorb the useful bit, then keep living normally.
It does not take photos. It does not record video. It does not play music. It does not make calls through a built-in speaker system because there is no built-in speaker system. Four microphones are present for voice input, transcription, translation and interaction with Even AI, whilst the paired iPhone or Android phone carries much of the processing and connectivity load.
The G2's best feature may be the one it lacks

You do not need to explain an LED, reassure a friend that you are not filming, or wonder whether your glasses are making a meeting feel oddly transactional. Two Shapes, One Set of Electronics

Even Realities sells the G2 in two versions: G2 A and G2 B. The important thing to understand before getting lost in letter soup is that these are not good, better and best models. There is no hidden performance tier. No premium display lurking inside one shape. No battery penalty for choosing the other. The electronics, software features, microphones, battery and display system are the same.
This is a fit decision. A proper glasses decision. Which is refreshingly sensible.
The G2 A uses a rounded, panto-style silhouette. It has a 47.7mm lens width, 41.3mm lens height, 132mm hinge-to-hinge width, 22.6mm bridge width and 138.9mm temple length. It is the more rounded of the two, and it will likely appeal if your current favourite frames are softer and less angular.
The G2 B is rectangular. Its lenses are 49.5mm wide and 41.3mm high, with a 132.8mm hinge-to-hinge width, a narrower 19.5mm bridge and the same 138.9mm temple length. The B is not dramatically larger, but that slightly wider lens and narrower bridge can matter quite a lot when you are wearing the thing for ten hours rather than trying it on for thirty seconds under shop lighting.
Both shapes use adjustable nosepads, a universal bridge fit and Even Realities' screwless hinge design. The G2 A has the wider bridge at 22.6mm; G2 B narrows that to 19.5mm. If you have ever had glasses slide, pinch or sit oddly on your nose, this is not trivia. It is the specification worth paying attention to.
The construction is also one of the G2's quiet strengths. Magnesium alloy in the front and titanium alloy in the temples are sensible materials for a wearable that has to look reasonably normal and stay comfortable through a working day. At around 36g before prescription-lens variation, the frame is in ordinary-glasses territory rather than headset territory. That is the difference between something you use occasionally and something you might genuinely leave on.
There are dark grey, olive green and dark brown frame options, all with clear lenses. None is trying to announce itself as "the future" from across the room, which I mean as praise. The G2 is technology with a fairly healthy fear of overdressing.

A HUD You Can Glance At, Not Stare Through

The G2's display is the reason to buy it, so it needs to earn its lens space. Happily, this is where the product feels most coherent. That last figure matters because these still need to work as glasses. You should be able to see the world first and the interface second, rather than feeling as though every trip to the kitchen requires entering a low-budget science-fiction film.
The visual effect is discreet. Text appears as an overlay at a comfortable apparent distance, and the green rendering is crisp enough for short instructions, subtitles, prompts and notifications. It is not immersive, nor should it be. The G2 does not try to cover the world with floating panels and animated widgets. It gives you a compact information layer and gets out of the way.
There is a specification wrinkle worth being clear about. Even's consumer support material listed the resolution as 640 × 350, whilst its developer documentation described 576 × 288 per eye. Still, at this price, I would rather the company presented one consistent public figure. Nobody buying smart glasses wants to begin with a tiny optical mystery.
The display works because it knows its limits

The G2's software menu is broader than the minimalist hardware might suggest. Even AI provides answers and information through the display. Conversate handles live conversation support, including transcripts and context. Teleprompt turns the glasses into a private rolling script. Translate provides spoken-language translation. Navigate offers turn-by-turn guidance. Then there are the basics: notifications, quick notes and dashboard-style snippets of information.
None of these features replaces the phone app underneath. That is an important expectation to set. The G2 is best when it saves you from checking your phone, not when it attempts to become your phone. It is a companion interface, and the distinction is healthy.

Notifications are probably the most everyday feature. Long messages are less compelling. The G2 can show text, but it does not turn a lengthy WhatsApp thread into a good experience. Navigate is a more convincing fit. Reported review information put the supported prescription range at approximately -12.00 to +12.00 dioptres. That is unusually broad and should make the product relevant to many people who are routinely ignored by fashionable wearable hardware. Single-vision prescription lenses were available through Even Realities' ordering process, whilst progressive-lens orders could require working through a partner optician.
The prescription lenses use Mitsui Chemicals MR Series material with anti-reflective and anti-fingerprint coatings. That sounds like a detail for a technical sheet, but it is worth dwelling on. A wearable face display has enough going on without every fingerprint, reflection and smudge fighting your view. Everyday eyewear needs to behave like eyewear, not like a gadget that has wandered into your optician's waiting room.

The approximately 36g figure refers to the frame itself. Prescription lenses can increase the finished weight, particularly with stronger prescriptions. One hands-on prescription configuration measured about 45.6g, yet remained comfortable for long days — a reassuring real-world reminder that the final product is more than the bare-frame specification.
There is a wider point here. Smart glasses are usually sold as technology first and glasses second. The G2 flips that order. The optics, fit, nosepads, frame proportions and prescription options matter because this product only works if you can stand wearing it all day. The best heads-up display in the world is useless if it spends its life in a charging case because it gives you a headache by lunchtime.
That said, buying prescription smart glasses needs more care than buying regular frames online. Get your prescription right. Consider the bridge width carefully. Think honestly about whether you need progressives. And do not assume a £599 headline turns into a £599 finished pair if you need customised lenses. Battery Life That Depends on How Much You Ask of the Cloud
Battery life is one area where the G2 does unusually well for display-equipped eyewear. That phrase — "typical intermittent use" — does a lot of sensible work. The G2 is not a continuously lit screen. It is designed for quick interactions: check a notification, glance at a direction, run a teleprompter during a presentation, get a translated line, then return to being a pair of glasses. Used in that fashion, two days is credible.
Real-world reports broadly supported the claim. WIRED reached around two full days. 9to5Google got close to three days in its own pattern of use. Those are not controlled laboratory tests, and they should not be treated as a promise that every wearer will see identical results. Heavy Conversate use, frequent translation, navigation sessions and constant AI queries will naturally make the phone and glasses work harder. But the overall picture is good: this is not a device that needs coddling every afternoon.
The case is doing a lot of the practical heavy lifting here. You charge it by USB-C, put the glasses back in it using contact charging, and largely stop thinking about battery management. That is exactly how this category should work. If a pair of glasses requires a ritual, an app check and a cable hunt every single night, it has already lost the plot.
Hands-on evidence suggested that 20 to 30 minutes in the case could restore roughly a day of practical use. That is not an official full-charge benchmark, but it gives a helpful picture of daily life: brief pit stops are useful, and the case is not merely decorative luggage.
Battery life is better when the G2 behaves like glasses
The more you use it as a glanceable information layer, the closer you are likely to get to the two-day claim. Treat it as a constantly active AI assistant, translator and navigation device and expect the number to come down. That is not a flaw; it is simply the cost of asking a tiny wearable to keep doing things.
There is also a pleasant thermal benefit to this restrained design. The G2 is not trying to render rich video, drive stereo speakers or capture camera footage. No standardised surface-temperature measurement was published, but heat was not a major everyday complaint in hands-on use. For something on your face, "does not become noticeably annoying" is a much more valuable performance metric than gadget companies usually admit.
One final battery caveat: there is no published long-term charge-cycle endurance figure to lean on. The short-term battery story is strong. The several-years-later story is simply the usual wearable unknown. That is not unique to Even Realities, but it matters more when the battery is embedded in an expensive prescription product.

Living With the G2: A Phone Accessory, Not a Phone Replacement
The G2 pairs with the Even Realities app on iOS and Android over Bluetooth Low Energy. That arrangement keeps the frame light and helps battery life, but it also makes the phone relationship impossible to ignore.
Setup involves installing the app, creating an account, pairing the glasses, approving relevant notification and microphone permissions, checking for firmware updates and choosing which features you actually want enabled. It is not difficult, but it is more involved than buying an ordinary pair of frames. Sensible users should set aside a calm ten minutes rather than attempting it in the queue for a train.
There is a minor Bluetooth documentation mismatch: Even's consumer support page stated BLE 5.4, whilst developer documentation stated BLE 5.2. In daily terms, the more important point is that the G2 uses a low-energy Bluetooth link and remains fundamentally phone-dependent. You will care less about the decimal point than whether it reconnects properly after the glasses have been in their case.
And this is where the G2 is less polished than its excellent hardware suggests. Software reliability has been the main recurring criticism. What the G2 Is Genuinely Good For
The easiest way to understand the G2 is through situations rather than feature names. This is not a device for every minute of every day. It earns its place in a handful of moments where looking down at a phone is inconvenient, socially awkward or actively unhelpful.
Walking navigation is the obvious one. You are leaving a station in an unfamiliar city, carrying a bag, talking to somebody or simply trying not to become that person who stops abruptly in the middle of a pavement. A next-turn arrow and short instruction are enough. You do not need a full map floating in front of your face. In fact, you very much do not.
Cycling navigation follows the same logic, with one important caveat: the G2 is best for quick prompts, not for staring at whilst moving. The utility is in reducing the need to reach for a phone, not in replacing common sense. The IP65 rating adds welcome confidence for rain and dust exposure, though it does not make the glasses an excuse to ignore the weather, traffic or basic road awareness.
Teleprompting is possibly the killer feature for the right person. Teachers, presenters, interviewers, content creators, speakers and anyone who has ever tried to maintain eye contact whilst discreetly checking notes will understand it immediately. That is premium pricing, no two ways about it. The G2 is not competing with ordinary frames alone; it is competing with other ways to access smart features. You are paying for the discreet display, custom optics, unusual engineering and the fact that the product has been designed not to shout about itself.

The obvious lower-cost in-family alternative is the Even Realities G1 A, available from £445 on the current UK store. It follows the same camera-free, speaker-free philosophy but has a smaller 640 × 200 display, 25-degree field of view, 20Hz refresh rate and 1,000-nit brightness. The G2 is the more polished hardware, with its 27.5-degree field of view, 60Hz refresh and IP65 rating, but the G1 remains relevant if the concept appeals more than the newest panel.
Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer Gen 2 takes the opposite path. At £379 for a standard clear-lens configuration, it is cheaper than the G2 and offers 3K Ultra HD video capture, open-ear speakers, a five-microphone array, Meta AI, calls and up to eight hours of typical use. It has no heads-up display, though. That means no private captions, no in-lens teleprompter and no navigation arrows in your view. It is brilliant for capture and audio, but it is much more socially loaded because it has a camera.
XREAL Air 2 Pro is another entirely different proposition. It is much cheaper at £288 on the official UK shop, but it is a 75g tethered display built for screen mirroring, movies, gaming and productivity. Its 1,920 × 1,080-per-eye Micro-OLED displays, 46-degree field of view and 120Hz 2D mode make it vastly more capable for video. It also needs a connected USB-C device for power. The G2 is not remotely competitive as a cinema screen; XREAL is not remotely as plausible as everyday prescription-style glasses.
