AMD Brings FSR 4.1 to Xbox and Radeon RX 6000 GPUs

AMD’s latest machine-learning upscaler is available now for Radeon RX 6000 PCs, while Xbox Series X|S support is promised soon.

AMD Brings FSR 4.1 to Xbox and Radeon RX 6000 GPUs

What you need to know

  • FSR 4.1 is now available for Radeon RX 6000-series PCs through Adrenalin 26.10.1.
  • AMD says Xbox Series X and Series S support is “coming soon”.
  • Games will need individual support or patches before Xbox players see a benefit.

FSR 4.1 reaches older Radeon hardware

AMD has expanded FSR Upscaling 4.1 to Radeon RX 6000-series graphics cards, giving owners of its 2020-era GPUs access to the company’s newer machine-learning upscaler. The support arrived in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1, released on 20 October.

FSR 4.1 reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution frame. AMD says it improves image quality and sharpness over FSR 3.1, though players will need a compatible game as well as the new driver.

AMD adapted its INT8 machine-learning model for the RX 6000 family. The company had previously expected support in early 2027, making this an earlier-than-planned rollout. AMD has not published a model-by-model compatibility list beyond the RX 6000-series designation.

Xbox Series X and S are next

AMD is also working with Microsoft to bring FSR 4.1 to Xbox Series X and Series S. Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet said the technology is “coming soon” to the consoles, but neither company has confirmed a consumer release date, supported-game list or delivery method.

FSR Upscaling 4.1 is “coming soon” to Xbox Series X|S consoles.

The feature will not upgrade every existing Xbox game automatically. Developers must add support or patch individual titles. Windows Central reports that an initial handful of games is expected during the 2026 holiday season, followed by more through 2027 and beyond.

More support for laptops and handhelds

The rollout also covers Ryzen AI Max processors, laptops with Ryzen AI 9 processors, and handhelds using Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme or Ryzen Z2 A chips. AMD cites devices including the ASUS ROG Flow Z13, ASUS TUF A14 and ROG Xbox Ally X.

Handheld availability depends on manufacturers supplying compatible driver or device updates. AMD has not confirmed FSR 4.1 compatibility for the standard non-Z2 ROG Xbox Ally.

What happens next

AMD has also announced planned Vulkan support for FSR 4.1, alongside frame-pacing improvements for FSR Frame Generation and wider availability of FSR Ray Regeneration. Dates for those additions have not been confirmed.

Why it matters

This gives owners of Radeon RX 6000 cards a route to AMD’s newer upscaling technology without replacing their graphics card. For Xbox owners, the announcement is encouraging but not immediate: Microsoft and game developers still need to deliver support, so improvements will arrive title by title rather than across every game at once.
