What you need to know

  • UK pre-sales start on 16 November for the 12GB/512GB model at £1,299.99.
  • Motorola claims a 12,000-nit peak display and a 7,000mAh battery.
  • The 90W wired charger needed for the fastest charging is sold separately.

Motorola has announced the motorola signature 27, a premium Android flagship with a claimed 12,000-nit peak display and 7,000mAh battery. UK pre-sales for the 12GB RAM and 512GB storage version begin on 16 November, priced at £1,299.99.

The Signature 27 has a 6.78-inch Extreme AMOLED Duo display, marketed as 6.8 inches, using tandem OLED technology. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision and a 1.5K resolution. Motorola calls it the “brightest display available in a smartphone”, but says the 12,000-nit figure is based on laboratory data in specific scenarios and can vary with conditions.

Inside is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform. The handset is expected to launch with Android 17, according to third-party reporting, while Motorola promises seven years of operating-system and security updates, subject to market, model and network-provider conditions.

Big battery, separate charger

The 7,000mAh battery is 35% larger than that in the previous Motorola Signature, according to Motorola. It supports 90W wired and 50W wireless charging, with Motorola claiming 90W charging can provide “power for the day in just 12 minutes”.

Buyers should note that Motorola says both the required 90W wired charger and 50W wireless charger are sold separately. The company also claims up to 77 hours of battery life under its test conditions; independent battery testing is not yet available.

A 200MP zoom camera joins the flagship push

The rear camera system combines a 50MP main camera with Sony’s LYTIA L910 sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide and a 200MP periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Motorola also lists up to 100x AI-assisted or hybrid zoom, alongside a dedicated Event Vision Sensor intended to help with moving subjects.

Other headline features include a 50MP front camera with 4K recording, IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, and audio tuned with Bang & Olufsen. Motorola says the Signature 27 is its first device to support GrapheneOS.

What it means for UK buyers

This is no longer a lower-cost alternative to the biggest flagship phones. The original Motorola Signature launched in the UK at £899.99 in January, making the Signature 27 £400 more expensive at launch.

That higher price brings a substantial on-paper battery upgrade, a more ambitious zoom camera and longer software support. A UK general-sale date of 3 December has been reported by Tech Advisor, but it was not confirmed on the Motorola UK product page checked. Carrier availability and contract prices have not been confirmed.

Why it matters

The Signature 27 moves Motorola firmly into ultra-premium pricing, costing £400 more than the original Signature launched earlier this year. Its larger battery and seven-year update promise are meaningful upgrades for buyers keeping a phone for several years, but real-world endurance and camera performance still need independent testing. The headline 12,000-nit brightness figure is a laboratory peak for specific scenarios rather than normal everyday brightness.
