Qualcomm Teases Two Snapdragon 8 Elite Chips Ahead of Tuesday Launch
Qualcomm has confirmed two next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platforms will debut at its Snapdragon Summit in Maui on Tuesday.

What you need to know
- Qualcomm has confirmed it will launch two next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platforms on Tuesday.
- Confirmed features include a 5GHz Oryon CPU, Flex Cache and AI-focused GPU and NPU changes.
- Final names, phone partners, UK prices and release dates have not been confirmed.
Qualcomm has confirmed it will reveal two next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platforms at its Snapdragon Summit in Maui, Hawaii, on Tuesday 22 September.

The company’s 16 September preview said: “This year, that evolution comes to life across two Snapdragon 8 Elite platforms.” The formal announcement is scheduled for Qualcomm’s Mobile Keynote, starting at 10:00am Hawaii time.
What Qualcomm has confirmed
The new platforms will feature a Qualcomm Oryon CPU that the company describes as the first mobile CPU to reach 5GHz. Qualcomm has also previewed Oryon Flex Cache, which allows different CPU cores to access a dynamically allocated shared cache pool.
AI is the central theme. Qualcomm says its Adreno Neural Fusion system will combine neural processing, AI super-resolution and frame generation in one graphics pipeline, while new Adreno matrix cores will provide dedicated AI acceleration inside the GPU. The company has also detailed 18MB of Adreno High Performance Memory.
A next-generation Hexagon NPU will add an Element Accelerator for transformer-based generative and agentic-AI workloads. Qualcomm says the NPU has 50% more shared memory and is designed to support Mixture-of-Experts models exceeding 30 billion parameters.
Names and detailed specifications remain under wraps
Qualcomm has not confirmed the final commercial names of either platform. Industry reports have referred to Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, but those names remain unconfirmed ahead of the keynote.
There are also no official details on core counts, GPU configurations, modem specifications, manufacturing process, benchmarks or the phones that will use the chips. Reports linking the platforms to a 2nm process have not been confirmed by Qualcomm.
Why it matters for UK buyers
For buyers, the likely payoff is in the next wave of high-end Android phones: faster apps and games, more capable multitasking, and AI features for imaging, video and assistants that can run locally on a handset. Qualcomm has not yet said which specific functions will reach UK phones.
The previous Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, announced in September 2025, was a 3nm chip with CPU speeds of up to 4.74GHz. This year’s confirmed 5GHz CPU target and deeper GPU-NPU AI integration suggest Qualcomm is pushing performance and on-device AI further, rather than changing direction.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit runs from 22 to 24 September. UK phone availability, pricing and retail dates will have to wait until manufacturers announce their devices.
Why it matters
These chips are likely to power premium Android phones arriving later in 2026 and during 2027. Qualcomm’s focus on faster local AI processing could improve camera, gaming and assistant features without always relying on cloud services, but there is no confirmed UK handset or reason for buyers to delay a purchase yet.
