PS5 Pro Stock Dries Up in US After GTA 6 Netflix Reveal

PS5 Pro consoles have all but vanished from major US retailers within roughly 48 hours of Netflix premiering its Grand Theft Auto VI extended look on 27 August, according to retail reports.

Best Buy and Target have sold through their stock, while Amazon and Walmart listings were limited to third-party sellers asking as much as $1,299. That is well above the PS5 Pro’s current $899.99 recommended price. PlayStation Direct held out longest at the $899.99 list price, but Push Square recorded it going unavailable at 7:45pm on 30 August, completing the US sell-out.

Netflix footage put PlayStation in the spotlight

Netflix premiered roughly 26 to 27 minutes of new GTA 6 footage, depending on the outlet counting it, at 3pm ET on 27 August in a collaboration with Rockstar Games. The special, titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, was exclusive to Netflix for six hours before being released elsewhere.

“Captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5, this extended look at the next Grand Theft Auto showcases the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet,” said Netflix.

Netflix’s listing identifies the footage as captured on PlayStation 5 but does not mention the PS5 Pro. GTA 6 is nevertheless confirmed to have PS5 Pro enhancements, although Rockstar has not detailed what those improvements will be.

What UK buyers should know

There is no confirmed evidence that UK retailers have sold out or that local marketplace prices have surged in the same way. However, the official UK PS5 Pro price is £789.99 following Sony’s price change of 2 April 2026. UK stock levels change hourly and no retailer has issued a statement, so anyone buying should check availability directly rather than rely on this page.

GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S on 19 November. The Standard Edition is priced at £69.99 in the UK, while the Ultimate Edition costs £89.99.

Rockstar has not announced performance modes or frame rates for GTA 6 on any console, the PS5 Pro included, so anyone buying a Pro specifically for a 60fps mode is buying on hope rather than on a published specification. Sony is expected to restock retailers ahead of the November release, but buyers hoping to secure a console at list price may not want to rely on last-minute availability.
