Our Take
The Nintendo Switch 2 is the follow-up to Nintendo's record-breaking hybrid console, playing games both on a TV via its dock and as a handheld. It targets existing Switch owners ready for an upgrade as well as new entrants to Nintendo's ecosystem. It sits in the mid-range console market, between dedicated handhelds and full home consoles.
Key Features
Larger LCD screen compared to the original Switch, improving handheld visibility
Revised Joy-Con controllers attach magnetically rather than via the sliding rail mechanism of the original
New "C Button" on the right Joy-Con dedicated to Nintendo's GameChat voice and video chat feature
Backwards compatible with the majority of the existing Nintendo Switch game library
Upgraded processing hardware delivering noticeably improved frame rates and resolution over the original Switch
Mouse-functionality built into the Joy-Con when placed on a flat surface, used in select titles
Our Verdict
Buy it if you want Nintendo's first-party exclusives and value the flexibility of a handheld-home hybrid — the performance improvements over the original are genuine. Hold off if you already own a Switch OLED and rarely play in handheld mode; the upgrade is harder to justify at this price.
